Title:
Author: fairytaleparade
Rating:R
Pairing: Brendon/Ryan
POV: Ryan, 3rd person
Summary: Ryan thought that when Keltie found that text on his phone, they'd break up and that would be that. Little did he realise that love is murder.
Disclaimer: All this is true. Except for, well, the entire story.
Author Notes: Themes of blood, murder, etc. More notes at the end.

Ryan couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t see. Couldn’t think. For once in his short life, senses and words completely escaped him.

He stared and stared and stared at the scene in front of him, willing his eyes to look away with every fibre of his being, but he couldn’t stop. It was like watching a train wreck, and people are screaming, and burning, and dying, yet you stand there, a helpless spectator of this macabre chaos.

“R… Ryan…”

The sound of his name croaking out of those lips he’d grown so fond of brought him back to life. Transported him back into the world that the girl on the floor would never see again.

“Brendon,” he whispered finally, “what have you done?”

Then Brendon was crying, and a knife slipped from his fingers as bloodied hands covered his boyish face. “She… she just… she came at me. F… from nowhere. Screaming. She wouldn’t stop screaming.”

Ryan took a deep breath, the metallic taste of blood and sweat sticking at the back of his throat. Taking slow steps towards the massacre, he stared down at the body of the girl who always loved him too much. “Keltie,” he spoke softly, but her name didn’t catch between his lips like he’d thought it would. It was too late for her. Too late for that beautiful girl who had only ever pined for the love Ryan could never give her.

It was Brendon that needed him now. It was Brendon who had always needed him. Approaching the boy with chocolate eyes that were far too wide with fear and guilt, he couldn’t help but gather up that fragile and broken body into his arms, holding him as he wept.

“She said she was going to kill me. Said if she can’t have you, I can’t either.” His whole body shook with terror and misery.

Ryan didn’t speak, he just continued to stroke Brendon’s dark hair, comforting him.

“She came from nowhere, Ryan. And she just kept screaming.”

The pair fell to the floor, no more than a meter from where Keltie’s blood was soaking into the carpet. Ryan held onto Brendon tighter. “It’s okay. Shush, B. It’ll all be okay. We’ll fix this,” he took a deep breath, “I promise.”

The next morning, Ryan awoke to find Brendon fast asleep across his lap, tears from the night before dry on the leg of his trousers. He twisted a few strands of hair around his long, spindly fingers, before nudging the sleeping boy awake, gently.

“Brendon. Brendon, wake up.”

The boy didn’t open his eyes, just mumbled about a horrible nightmare he’d had. “It was awful, Ry. It was just…”

Then he saw Keltie’s unmoved body on the floor, her eyes still half open, staring glassily at nothing, and everything, all at once. Brendon whimpered. “It wasn’t a dream, was it, Ry?”

Still playing with the dark hair, Ryan shook his head, “No, Bren.”

Brendon sat up, and stared Ryan straight in the eyes. “What am I going to do?” He whispered.

Leaning forwards slightly, Ryan planted a delicate kiss on Brendon’s forehead. “You’re going to come with me, Bren. Because I would never leave you. It’s always been us. You and me. No matter what. I’ll never leave you.”

Then Brendon’s lips came crashing into Ryan’s, hungrily, and Ryan kissed back, taking away, just for a moment, the sadness and guilt that creased Brendon’s face into one of a broken wreck. Their lips parted, and Ryan whispered the words that would dictate the rest of their lives, “We’ll run, Brendon. We’ll run to a place that no one can find us. Where we’ll be free.”

Brendon smiled a thank you into Ryan’s collarbone, and nuzzled his head into the crook of Ryan’s neck.

It had been a year since the night that was referred to, if it was spoken about at all, as ‘The Incident’. A year since the night that Ryan and Brendon had started to run, and had never stopped. A year since all they’d had was each other.

Ryan watched as Brendon lazily stretched out in the sun on Scarborough beach in England, their latest haunt. Crawling over to him, Brendon kissed a line of ‘thank you’s’ and ‘i’ll never leave you’s’ all the way up Ryan’s jawline.

Smiling as Brendon snuggled up over his torso, Ryan couldn’t help but whisper, “I love you,” into Brendon’s ear, which was met with, “I love you more.”

They may never stop running. They may never be able to live a conventional life. But, as Ryan stared down at Brendon’s still figure, he couldn’t help his smile growing wider.

As long as he was with Brendon, Ryan was home. No matter where he was.

Authors Note: Please be aware that I do not hate Keltie, nor do I wish she were dead. I was merely playing with what could have happened when she found that text on Ryan's phone that resulted in the break-up... and if it had been Brendon who sent it...

I really liked that!
((Poor Keltie!))
Brendon all worried and paranoid about Keltie screaming was written really well and I felt so badly for him.
And then end was really cute. I just wanted to hug the two.
Amazing. <3

Oh wow,
This is crazy.
I loved it though,
And it's sad she died,
But if she was about to kill him and it's self defense...it's okay?

Yeah, I didn't think Brendon could ever just be a cold-blooded killer. He's far too jumpy and smiley for that kind of thing.
Thank you so much for the comment :)
